Reston Triathlon

For 36 years, the Reston Triathlon event has served as a staple in the Reston community. It’s olympic distance event has challenged athletes from across the United States and has been affectionately called the “Reston Triathlon World Championship.” During COVID-19 the previous group running the event worked tirelessly to keep the tradition alive but sadly announced in 2021 that they no longer could financially and logistically sustain the triathlon.

Working closely with the previous board, the CORE Foundation is thrilled to revive this event and continue the legacy of the Reston Triathlon founded in 1984. We have added the word “Olympic” to the event’s name as to avoid confusion with The Reston Sprint Triathlon which takes place on June 3rd. The Reston Olympic Triathlon will make its comeback debut on September 10, 2023 and annually going forward on the first Sunday following Labor Day.

The Reston Olympic Triathlon opens with a 1500m open water swim in Lake Audubon and is followed by a 25 miles bike and a 10k run on Reston paths. CORE Foundation is grateful for the overwhelming support from the athletes and local community received while pursuing the opportunity to revive this community tradition.
